Sleep With One Eye Open!

“Did you know that dolphins sleep with one eye open? It’s true.

They do so because they can only let one side of their brain sleep at a time. When the left side of the brain sleeps, the right eye will close, and vice versa. This isn’t some weird, ambidextrous stunt they’re pulling. Rather, it’s because they must always remain partially conscious to remind themselves to breathe.

You see, dolphins, unlike most sea creatures, are not fish. They are mammals. As such, they need to surface regularly to take in air. And for dolphins, breathing is not automatic or reflexive the way it is for humans. “In other words,” say the experts at us.whales.org, “dolphins have to actively decide when to breathe, … [They] alternate which half of the brain is sleeping periodically so that they can get the rest they need without ever losing consciousness.”

If a dolphin were ever to go into deep, full-brain, totally unconscious sleep, they would simply suffocate or drown.” (From WDC)
Believers in Jesus can’t afford to be lulled to sleep by the concerns of their lives. They must remain alert, always ready for the return of Christ. The Bible warns you must be prepared, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. We are to live in the light of Christ, and be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and to wear as our helmet the confidence of our salvation” (1Thessalonians 5:4-8)

Does the world scorn and reject the truth that Christ will return to earth as judge and as Lord of Lords?

Mathew 24: 36-39 states, “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”

Have many today fallen asleep in their faith in God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Do many feel confident in themselves rather than God? Do too many readily betray or hate others? Is lawlessness increasing, with no regard for the rights and safety of others? Is the gospel of the kingdom of Christ being proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations before the end comes?

“For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. All the people of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” (Matthew 24:30-31)

“The end of all things is at hand; therefore, be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” (1Peter 4:7-8)
